Excellence in Metal Finishing
HistoryFinishing and Plating Service, Inc. was founded in 1952 by the late Tom Laken Sr. who was a self-taught chemist through International Correspondence Schools in analytical and quantitative chemistry. He was able to take an idea and make it a successful business that is in its third generation.
Tom Sr. retired in 1981 and FPS was purchased by his son, Tom Jr. Tom Jr. remains with the company as CEO. The everyday workings have been handed over to Tom III who was named president in 2008. Bruce Laken, vice-president, rounds out the team that makes FPS the success it is.
In 1991, FPS relocated to Kenosha Industrial Park as a 38,000sq ft facility with 6 state of the art plating lines running three shifts, 5 days a week. Since then we have built not one but two additions, increasing our warehouse space and enclosing our shipping docks to make it easier for the customer. Environmentally we have a custom water treatment facility that exceeds the latest local, state and federal requirements.
Continuing to keep the customer demands and improving our service, in 2002 we became ISO 9001-2008 compliant. We were re-certified on December 22, 2014 (good through December 21, 2017).
Being active in the community nonprofit organizations is also a priority at FPS. FPS feels supporting our children will make our community stronger and ready for new challenges. Other professional associations FPS is affiliated with are: NAMF AESF and CMFI. Kenosha Area Business Alliance, Wisconsin Manufacturing Commerce and National Association Manufactures.
